RE: Chassis Air Drier

WE have a midland drier. at least that is what the manual says. Question on draining the tanks. We have two tanks up front and only one of them has a drain plug on the bottom. Is this the place I would drain the tanks or do I drain them by pulling the release valves on both tanks? We are still a couple of weeks from home and repair of the drier. Thanks for any info.

And be sure to drain the water from your tanks. Bypassing the dryer allows a lot of water to get into your air system. Also check for particles of desiccant, etc in the tank drain-- depending on what failed on the dryer.

Chassis Air Drier

We have a 99 Itasca on a freightliner chassis and the air chassis air drier went out while on the road. The road service bypassed the drier to get us home, 2000 miles, but says it needs to be rebuilt. Question is had anyone done this and how hard a job is it? It looks simple to remove and looks like a spin on filter of some sort on top. Any opinions?

RE: RV awning travel lock not lining up?

Larry,
Do you have a photo or link to a lock like you have?
I sent you a PM I have a picture and the e-mail address from the man who sold it to us. chevman
Ditto this. Would like to see what yours is like. If I cant get this to work it is back to the ol pin in pull down strap hole. Pain to have to go up top but it works. KISS.

RV awning travel lock not lining up?

We bought the RV awning travel lock (http://awninglock.com/index.shtml) and it worked great for the first two months of out trip. The last time I rolled it up the pin is about inch to inch and a half short of the pinhole in the end cap. Anyone had this problem and if so what did you do to fix it. The awning lock is of no use the way it is now. Thanks for any assisance.

RE: Debit cards instead of credit cards!

I have used a debit card for fuel but am not excited about it. I used in Wash state and all the stations I used it at charged my a fee to use it. They refused to take any credit cards by the way. Anyhow if you are filling a 100 gallon tank with it that is not so much a problem but I was filling the toad with 12 gallons so it was just like adding 5 cents to the gallon of fuel.

RE: Question on HWH Jacks Leveling System

Don't know if yours are the same but on ours 99 Itasca Suncruiser DP I had to remove the entire rear jack unit from the coach to get the inner spring off. It seems that HWH built the jack enclosed at the top by the mount. Kind of a pain but not really that difficult once I found out the units were self bleeding. Other than that it is wood while extended and then drop jack and spring comes off.

RE: trailer hitch tore off motor home

Having heard of these kinds of problems before I have installed backup chains from the hitch itself to the frame of the MH and the toad. Hopefully they will never come into play but you can never be to careful.

RE: Freightliner startup alarm???

We have HWH and the indicator on the dash says they are up. I go around and make sure they are up, but they could be down a 1/2" or so. I will make sure next time, but the neutral/in gear tells me it is not that. The dash shows air pressure 120psi and the air alarms goes off a the required 65psi. I am thinking a flakey switch/sensor somewhere that goes off unless I start in the above described procedure. If it does it again I guess I will have to take it to a freighliner shop when we get to Anchorage. Drives the DW nuts.

Freightliner startup alarm???

We have a 99 Itasca DP on a Freightliner chassis. Lately when I start the engine and procede to move I get a high pitched beep alarm. I seems that the alarm comes on when I put the trans into gear. It does not matter what gear, it comes on when in gear and off when in neutral. I can get to go without the alarm I, start engine, press air brakes, release park brake and then shift into gear. If I shift into gear before releasing the park brake the alarm comes on and will not stop until I shut down and go through the other procedure. Has anyone had this happen and what might be the cause? I am thinking it is an alarm so as not to try driving with the park brake on, but should it not go off when I release the park brake? Thanks.

RE: cummins isb oil pressure question?

C
Do you have a boost gauge on your 275? My engine is a 210 with 275RV injectors and I am wondering if I would get higher boost and more power if I had the ECU reprogrammed to the 275 map. My maximum boost is 24 psi.
Jim
We do not have a boost gauge on ours so do not know how much it is.

RE: cummins isb oil pressure question?

To clarify some questions. Changed oil and filter 2500 miles ago and the level is still full so that is not it. It did not drop rapidly but went down gradually to the low end of gauge. It does not stay steady but would fluctuate somewhat between the low end and mid gauge. Could be the sender but had that changed two years ago.

cummins isb oil pressure question?

I have a 99 Itasca with Cummins ISB 5.9 275hp engine. The other day we were goning across eastern Washington and cruising along and the oil pressure dropped to the low end of the normal range. This was on flat ground with the temps in the high 80s I would guess. The engine water temp was normal and there were no warning lights. Now the weird part is every time I climbed a grade the oil pressure would go up?? I have never seen it where the pressure goes up when a load is put on the engine but then I do not know much about diesels. Is this something that is normal?? If it is can someone explain why this happens? Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks. Alaska bound!

RE: Atwood Water Heater Nylon plug?

So how about these electric heaters that replace the drain plug? I know that atwood does not approve of them but they are sold and they have a brass fitting. There is an adapter fitting so theoretically you would only have to remove a brass on brass fitting.

RE: Dumping Air

This is very true. We went thru our usual procedure and in letting the air out we came down on the concrete curb that is placed at the back of some back in sites. Broke off the elbow from the air drier. Did not realize it until time to leave. Guess what NO AIR. So had to stay another day to get that fixed. Live and learn.
While it is proper procedure to dump the air suspension for the reasons mentioned previously, it is always a good idea to check for clearance under the coach before doing so. Several times over the years I have run into a site where there was a "hump" in the center or some other obstruction that would have contacted the coach if the air was dumped without extending the jacks first. Normal procedure: Dump suspension air, extend jacks - raise suspension, lift jacks.

RE: AC load center help needed

We have a 30 amp circuit and from an above post it seems that the last two slots of the panel are used to tie the upper and the lower buss together. Removing the "main-lug-block will disconnect half of the circuits breakers. So taking it out and adding breakers will not work. I will have to just find a outlet that I can plug the lightning rod into. Was just looking for a way to disconnect the lightning rod water heater without actually unplugging it each time. Oh well.
